Dating back to the year 1916, Kipona takes its name from the Native American term meaning “to be upon the sparkling water”…and it is a wonderful experience right by the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg!

Originally largely an aquatic celebration for spectators to watch swimming and boat races, the festival. This truly is an event for the entire family and a great way to end the summer season. River Front Park will be host to the live music stage (live music will be performed all three days of the festival), art and food vendors and the kid’s festival. Monday, September 7th will include the Festival of India and canoe races. Out on City Island you will be able to watch Karate Tournaments Saturday, September 5th, fireworks Sunday, September 6th. For all three days on the Island, you can see a Native American Pow Wow and Senators baseball games.

Parking for the event: Street parking will be free for Sunday and Monday. Drivers can get 4 hours of free parking Saturday by using the PANGO phone app and entering “LUVHBG” into the app. City Island will be offering parking for $3.00 all three days of the festival.
